It’s Valentine’s Day and it’s already been lovely

Get your minds out of the gutter!
My lovely wife brought me a range of lovely presents and a thoughtful card in which she wrote a thoughtful and lovely message - all given to me in bed this morning. And after that, the dogs were "watered" and coffee was ready for me when I came from the shower.
She's the Bestest Wife I could ever want. I love my Wifey

He Lives! He Lives!
....and one day, he will be called Scooter!
Fedora Core 6 - aka Zod - is installed and the CPU and heatsink are connected now with thermal paste. Load on the OS has been up past 15 several times - and before when stressed, the system was PANICing or freezing. 24 hours in and things seem good enough to put the case lid on and test again. Obviously three fans blowing across the CPU and cooler were not enough!!
The system will then be wiped and Zod reinstalled - with the two SCSI disks mirrored using software RAID. I'll then be installing the server into the garage in a special 19" self-made wallmount
[within the Perl environment] install HTTP::Request (and note to self: don't forget yum install compat-lib*)

We shall rebuild you, Barnettland!
The oh-so-slightly-less-crap server should take over from "Frankie" sometime soon - and with a supply of thermal paste, the problem with the old server should be gone.....I found when checking the CPU that the patch which was supposed to conduct heat away from the chip actually was not really. Not stuck anymore.
With this I'll see about putting a server in the garage and a server in the cellar; a DIY 19" wallmount for the Proliant I feel coming to the garage!! If I have the data in two places then I'll never lose it or so the voices in my head keep telling me....
So in the next few days, say Hello to Kermit. Scooter will be retiring for a little while

Frankenstein server takes shape....
Indeed; the server firstly had a memory problem so I had to move everything to a new machine. All OK for a week or so and then suddenly......the motherboard gives out. So I had to butcher another machine into taking the SCSI disk and controller and get the server up and running again. A picture to come, I'd say.... frankenstein.barnettlland.net is up and running!

Rockster Birthday .... Friday the 13th!!!
To celebrate the Rockster Birthday, I've made a link to see the status of this very interesting motorbike
10200km in one year, running like a dream and with a couple of modifications. It's an ultra-boring microsite....so boring indeed that I stopped adding a report for each tankful of fuel...!

LASEK treatment
Thanks to the miracles of modern technology, someone can see again - without glasses or contact lenses.
Here she is with Dr Leyla Kandur after the procedure in Istanbul
?(smiley chosen for the irony of Sam having to wear sunglasses for days afterwards!)

Thanks, Everyone....
...for the Birthday and Anniversary cards. We were slightly busy with something called LASEK but that's OK, isn't it?
And if you did send a card - shame on you. Really!

TV review .... for my Birthday
Well, we're in Istanbul and temporarily not able to do anything so here's the news of our new TV....
Sony KDL-32S2010 is the Bravia replacement for our WEGA TV; 32" is enough....so we took the same size. Picture quality is excellent and initial setup a breeze; channels all found and TV ready to rock & roll.
Sound quality is sufficiently good to kill off my ideas of getting an amp & speakers! And with quick-button access to the screen-blanker, I am happy.
Finally, my KiSS system is connected with a Scart->Component cable giving 480p upscaling which is very good for movies in electronic format.
10/10 for function & design!

Lazy Bones
Yes, nothing much since the World Cup -
are we that lazy?
The car is running fine, 4000km on it
and nothing went wrong yet - is it a REAL Land Rover, I ask myself!!
House-wise.....pretty much everything's
finished, done, bought, bankrupted. New furniture, new TV, wardrobes,
cupboards - now it just needs cleaing (Lucy, where are you?!?!?!).
The most important thing, however, is
Premiership Kickoff. I have Sky Sports, ART and Premiere is wide
open now....WAHEY!
